I still don't have my computer setup but just had to share this news. I joined the Cairns RoadRunners and they had their first race of the year yesterday. It was the first in a 3 series leg and there is the choice between a 3k and 5k option. I decided to do the 5k option and glad I did. Its held out at one of the Cairns Northern Beaches so it gets pretty blowy. It was brilliantly run and organised and makes me wonder how the Brissy Australia Day Fun Run could have been such a shamble given the resources it had. I think they said they had 106 competitors for the run which they were happy with. I wanted to run sub 22 and if I got under that I was going to be chuffed. The run started and I took off at what I thought was a nice casual pace - I got to the 1km marker at 3.55! I started to panic and thought I should try and slow down a little and thought I did but I got to the 2km marker at 7.55! By this stage I was still feeling fairly good so just decided to keep the pace. I don't recall seeing anymore km markers but I know at about the 3.5km point I was really starting to struggle but I just told myself to hang on and have a big chuck at the end if need be. The end result - 20mins 41 seconds.
I'm happy to say that in the last 2 weeks I've still been training and haven't missed too many sessions. I've joined a gym here in Cairns that has great treadmills! So it looks I can keep the majority of my training done on them. I hope everyone is happy and well and I look forward to reporting and reading more ASAP.
